flower power - tech

flower power - tech

What we are doing:

1.Know the parts of the flower and what the function(what they do and why) of each part is.

2. Be able to dissect a flower, arrange its parts and collate on an information sheet

3. Complete the science of a flower .

4. Be able to speak about the above.

Flower: you can use your flower to make a certain area smell nice. It can also turn into a perfume. They are different kinds of flowers and they have their own looksThey attract a lot of bugs because the bugs like the smell of it and the pollen.

PARTS OF FLOWER:

Stigma

Style

Anther

Pollen tube

Sepal

Thalamus

Male Gametophyte

Pedals

Ovule

Female Gametophyte

Dissection:

He's using a paring knife butter knife

Cutting board  flower bud gloves glasses

And flower

Removal:

1 petal

Remove sepals

Cut the middle

We got a flower and put it on the cutting board we took of 1 of the pedals then removed the sepals and then cut the middle after that we had to get the pollen tube in the middle of it

float or sink - tech

 FLOATING AND SINKING

  • Why something floats

  • Why somethings sinks

  • Why something semi float

FLoating -light , full of air

sink-heavy , no air

Semi float- when it float and sinks

Notes:

Light :buoyant , crew ship

Heavy: non buoyant

We can tell if its gonna float or not by holding it

Density : the amount of mass something has , relative to its volume.

More density more impact

Archimedes Principle - gave us density and buoyancy

BUOYANCY  EXPERIMENTS/ FLOAT OR SINK

Aim purpose: predict the test the buoyancy of objects

Equipment:

  • Variety of balls:

  • marbles/large/small

  • Golf ball

  • Table tennis ball

  • Tennis ball

  • Several blocks of material

  • Different sized wooden block

  • Different sized plastic block

  • Polystyrene rectangular pieces - two sizes

  • A water bath / two thirds full

  • My partner - kiarah

  • Before you test each object, accurately measure size and weight , describe the material and predict density Record

  • Gently place each object in the water and see it’s behaviour (Sink or Float)
